Weishaupt during Knigge’s visit to Bavaria
The Areopagites, who were at odds with Weishaupt during Knigge’s visit to Bavaria, complained that he was despotic and fickle.
They stated :
He believes himself to be chief of all men, a Messiah, and treats no one with justice, only those who flatter him.
Such a man he elevates to the Heavens for a while. However, a minor circumstance, a lack of blind devotion to his whims, can lower the noblest man in his esteem, while on the other hand a little a little cow-towing and homage will assure even the most crooked head his unlimited trust.
