Michael Maier - Atalanta Fugiens
G.J.P. and Searching blogspot will present soon for first time in Greece the first multimedia project ever made from Michael Maiers alchemical emblem book Atalanta fugiens (1618).
This multimedia work containing of 50 engraved emblems visualizing the alchemical stages and including corresponding epigrams, discourses and musical symphonies ‘fugues’, which he composed himself.
In our presentation we will read some small interesting text from the book in the beginning and then we will project on screen each of the 50 emblems and recite of its own text simultaneously and then playing its own fugue music.
Atalanta Fugiens is considered by many to be the most beautiful and the most thought-provoking emblem book of all time, with an author in Michael Maier (1568-1622) who was a celebrated alchemist and physician at the court of the Emperor Rudolf II in Prague.
The title Atalanta Fugiens refers to the myth of the fleeing Atalanta, a famous Arkadian huntress and a favourite of the goddess Artemis.
